Review: Etude House Tint My Brows Gel

If you’ve ever seen me without my eyebrows, I’m sorry.

Okay, so I’m (mostly) kidding, but I really do look like a totally different person with my natural brows. They’re blonde, sparse and don’t help to frame my eyes at all. That’s why I usually rely on various products to shape my arches: brow gel, pencils and pomades. But if you’ve kept up with the beauty scene in recent years, you know that K-beauty (shorthand for products imported from South Korea) has made a splash in the West – and one of the most novel products it’s brought with it is peel-off eyebrow tint. But does it work? Check out my review below to find out!

What It Is

Etude House Tint My Brows Gel is a thick gel liner that promises to make eyebrow makeup last long after removing the tint. It comes in a 0.17oz tube that looks just like any other eyebrow gel, but instead of a spoolie brush, the applicator is a medium sized brush (it looks sort of like a lip gloss brush). It’s available online at a few retailers, including Amazon and Etude House, and in-store at some Topshop locations.

How You Use It

After trimming and tweezing as necessary, the package has you apply a liberal amount to clean eyebrows in your desired shape. You really have to pile on the product (this helps in removal of the dried pack). Then, let the product dry for a minimum of 2 hours. You can also leave the product on overnight, which is recommended for oily skin or for deeper color payoff. After waiting the requisite amount of time looking like you’ve Sharpied on your eyebrows, gently peel off the pack, starting from the tail of the brow.

My Results

I spent about 10 minutes putting this on right before bed. After making sure it was tacky to the touch, I went to sleep. About 8 hours later, I peeled off the pack and revealed fairly dark, well-shaped eyebrows. While the color wasn’t totally even, I attribute that to the thickness of the brush – the size and shape made it hard to really define the tails of my eyebrows. Where the color was even, however, my eyebrows were slightly powdery, with a natural finish that I really liked. The color remained completely in the shape that I wanted, too.

Is It Worth It?

I still had to spend a minute or two touching up my eyebrows after removing the pack. However, the gel definitely saved me time in my morning makeup routine. The finish was also nice and the color surprisingly pigmented. However, this is definitely not semi-permanent. The packaging promises a tint that lasts for 3 days, but my newly-dark eyebrows were gone after just one.

So, is it worth it? If you’re looking for a novel way to save yourself a few minutes in the morning, Etude House Tint My Brows Gel is definitely worth a try. But if you’re in need of a more permanent way to darken your eyebrows, I’d stick to brow tinting with actual dye.*

Have you tried peel-off makeup?

*If you’re new to brow tinting, leave it to a professional. But, if you’re a seasoned pro, I recommend using this men’s beard and mustache dye. I know it sounds a bit odd, but this dye is easy to use and safe for your face (dye for your hair is not safe for facial skin).
